THE MADEJSKI STADIUM - READING

Ground #: 31

Visited: 19th November 2011
venue: We didn't know what to expect of Reading FC or the Madejski stadium. We did have a weak spot fr Cardiff though, after our visit to the capital of Wales a year before. But what a pleasant surprise Reading would be!

impression of the ground
What a nice stadium! From the outside it isn't too special and the name is not very great either, but once you're inside it's great! The main stand is a two tier stand, the other stands are single tiered but lamost as high. The corners are closed (yes! an absolute plus for new grounds)  which makes it intimate. The acoustics are fantastic, at least at our seats.

atmosphere
Only a small part of the Reading fans are fanatic, but they were gathered to our left. Bu then again, it isn't auiet. And the 4,000 Cardiff City fans at the away end made a great noise. So all togehter it was fun!

clubshop:
The clubshop is shared with a rugby team (as in Wycombe and Cardiff) and supplies a good selection of articles. And a lot of hats at a reasonable price. So here's one for Reading!

catering:
As well inside and out of the ground it's impossible to stay hungry. Near the ground is a retail park with a McDonalds (completely occupied bij Bluebirds this day) and around the ground are lots of stands which offer a very good meal. Once again thumbs up for Reading.

away following: 4,000

atmosphere away end:
Whoopie! Cardiff scored an early goal and anyway the Bluebirds' fans  were in great shape this day. What a crowd! I got some strange looks when Andy, a friend from Cardiff, gave us "the ayatollah"  from the away end. But of course they didn't have the guts to stand up against us big boys(...), haha.

Conclusion
Reading is a must do! The stadium is great, prices are decent, the people are very nice, the women are beautiful so what should stop you? The Madejski turned out to be one of the most pleasant surprises on our journeys thus far.

Maidstone is a stopping point once we've left the Channel Tunnel

After the first burger of the day it's all westbound!

550 kilometers from home...

... it's Reading. An old club (1871!) which shares the ground with the London Irish Rugby club

catering is great at the Madejski

as is the clubshop

but still a lot to enjoy in our block...

Reading scored a consolation goal but to little to late

The Madejski a worthwile visiting. No, it's a MUST!

How to get there?
From the M4 take junction 11 and the ground is well signposted. There is enough parking space nearby for the usual 5 pounds. Don't park at the shopping mall parking (which is free) but you can't park any longer than 1,5 hours and they are checking!.
